Holiday lights in Pompano Beach

As the weather cools, many travelers in colder states look for warm destinations to vacation. At Beach Vacation Rentals, we highly recommend sunny Pompano Beach, Florida, just north of Fort Lauderdale. This charming oceanfront town is clean, safe, and family-friendly, without the crowds of other Florida destinations. Pompano Beach shines in the fall and winter seasons, offering stellar weather, quality accommodations, and abundant activities and events that are often free. Here are a few reasons we recommend a fall or winter vacation to Pompano Beach.

1. The Nation’s Longest Continously Running Holiday Boat Parade

Pompano Beach takes the holiday season seriously. One of the city’s longest-standing holiday traditions is the annual Holiday Boat Parade, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2022. The parade features dozens of boats decked out with holiday lights and motifs, and thousands of viewers line the Intracoastal Waterway to watch. It’s a fun and exciting part of the holidays here, and it’s free to attend. Beach Vacation Rentals’ guests can walk to free or paid viewing stands at nearby parks and restaurants.

2. Lift Off! The Drone Show Countdown is On!

The skies over Pompano Beach will provide the perfect canvas for a spectacular futuristic production by Firefly Drone Shows on November 12, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. The evening sky will be filled with over 200 brightly lit drones in a choreographed presentation coordinated by world-class artists and engineers. The event is free, so relax on the beach and gaze towards the heavens for a unique presentation that has delighted fans at global events like the Super Bowl and the Olympics!

3. Free Pompano Jazz Fest with Headliners David Sanborn and Spyro Gyra

Jazz Fest 23 promises a full lineup of incredible artists, including world-renowned jazz fusion band Spyro Gyra headlining the beachfront concert on Friday, January 20th, and six-time Grammy Award-winning jazz saxophonist David Sanborn headlining on Saturday, January 21, 2023, in Old Town. General admission to all performances is free but registration is required. VIP tickets to Spyro Gyra and David Sanborn are $65.00. You can learn more about this event here.

4. Oceanfront Promenade Park – a Winter Wonderland!

Pompano’s spectacular new oceanfront promenade park turns into a winter wonderland along the full, half-mile stretch, just a short walk from Cottages by the Ocean. Enjoy the many light displays and mild, balmy ocean breezes each evening from Thanksgiving through New Years.

5. Nautical Flea Market

Celebrating Pompano’s maritime history, every January, Community Park in Pompano Beach hosts a gigantic Nautical Flea Market, with hundreds of vendors selling a variety of nautical-themed items. From new and used boats, jet skis, and motors to apparel, decor, and artwork, there’s a wide range of goods to browse. If you work up an appetite while hunting for deals, there are food vendors too, and live music to keep you entertained.

6. Music Under the Stars

Every month, the Pompano Beach Parks and Recreation Department puts on a Music Under the Stars event on the beach at the Great Lawn. Mosey down to the park for a night of live music in the great outdoors. This free event is a fun way to keep tabs on the local music scene and experience the community of Pompano Beach coming together.

7. Pompano Beach Green Market

From November through April, the Green Market Pompano Beach takes place on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center. The Green Market is a great way to experience authentic, local Pompano Beach. The Green Market is your one-stop shop for holistic, organic, and natural foods and products. During the event, you can also enjoy a yoga class on the Great Lawn for a little extra movement and relaxation.

8. Town Untapped

Old Town is a historic area that has been revitalized with a bustling arts and entertainment scene. You can see it in action at Old Town Untapped, a first-Friday monthly event that features live music, local craft beer, food trucks, creative vendors, and open art galleries at the Bailey Contemporary Arts Center. This event is free and offers fun for all ages and interests.

With over a century of history, the Historic Hillsboro Inlet Light Station is a remarkable reminder of Pompano’s past. The lighthouse has been preserved beautifully, and tours are offered on a monthly basis. On the tour, you’ll have an opportunity to climb up to the top, a whopping 175 steps up.
