Cottages by the Ocean

Cottages by the Ocean is a small, well-kept property of charming Key West-style studio and one-bedroom cottages. This historic complex comprised the first resort cottages in Pompano Beach, when everything else was pineapple fields. We are a White Glove award-winner and nationally rated as a Superior Small Lodging. Each restored 1940s cottage has a full kitchen, king or queen bed and sleeper sofa, lush, tropical garden views, large screened-in porches or open patio, private BBQ grills, with a central patio for sunning or bird watching and coin laundry on site.
Great Location!

The Cottages are centrally located on a quiet street in the safe, ocean-side community of Pompano Beach, 15 minutes north of downtown Fort Lauderdale and 15 minutes south of Boca Raton. They are less than two blocks from one of South Florida’s most pristine, award-winning Blue Wave beaches (with life guards), and a short walk to dozens of restaurants, shops, nightspots, new public fishing pier, snorkel/dive boats, charter fishing boats, jet ski and boat rentals, gym, day spa, 24-hour pharmacy and more. Walk along Pompano’s spectacular new oceanfront park promenade, full of family-friendly amenities.

Take a five-minute drive to the new Pompano CitiCenter shopping mall, movie theaters, tennis and aquatics complex, dog park, historic air park for private planes and the Goodyear Blimp base, 36-hole city golf facility with Greg Norman signature course and driving range, Old Pompano historic district with Baily Contemporary Arts Center, Saturday Green market, fishing fleet and historic Hillsboro Inlet lighthouse, The Amp outdoor concert venue, and the impressive new Pompano Cultural Arts Center.

The smoke-free ISLE Casino, next door to Pompano Harness Track, is a 15-minute drive. I-95 is a 10-minute drive for easy access to all South Florida business centers, shopping and attractions.

For the comfort of future guests, no smoking is allowed inside the Cottages.

King Studio Cottage (Units 1, 2, 5 & 6)

This charming, detached cottage with tropical garden view is much larger than a typical studio apartment. It has a large, private, screened-in porch, George Foreman electric BBQ grill and outdoor dining furniture for four, along with two beach chairs (extras can be requested). The front door keyless entry is programmed in advance to whatever four-digit number the guest requests. Inside are tile floors throughout. The high vaulted and beamed ceilings have a lighted ceiling fan. The studio includes king bed and full kitchen with all dishes, utensils and appliances (but no dishwasher). The coffeemaker is a 12-cup carafe drip style. Outside the back door from the kitchen is an after-beach shower for when you come back from the beach all sandy and want to wash down. The living area includes sleeper sofa and loveseat or chair and flat-screen TV, plus books and family games. The indoor dining area seats four. The table can extend twice as big for work/computer space or having friends over for dinner. The bathroom is small with shower (no tub) and includes a hairdryer. The cottage is supplied with six sets of bath towels and four beach towels, spare sheets, pillows and blankets, lots of hangars, iron/board, vacuum/mop/bucket/broom, beach cooler and a rack for drying swimsuits. We start you off with a variety of basic cleaning supplies, fresh sponge and tall kitchen bags under the kitchen sink, a roll of paper towels, coffee filters, salt/pepper, two rolls of toilet paper, large bar soap for the shower and liquid hand soap at the kitchen and bathroom sinks. If these run out, the guests purchase their own just as they would in their own homes. The on-site guest laundry is always supplied with laundry detergent, stain remover and dryer sheets. Cost for washer and dryer is $1.00 per load for each, in quarters. There is free, high-speed wi-fi, air-conditioning and heating, and free parking – one space per rented unit. Front and back door dusk-to-dawn LED lights, plus garden, perimeter and property entry lights keep the property well-lit after dark. Tiny white lights in the trees at night add to the romance.

Queen Studio Cottage (Unit 4)

This charming cottage with tropical garden view is much larger than a typical studio apartment. It also has a private, outdoor garden patio with new pavers, palm tree and flowering plants, accessed from both the front door and back kitchen door. It has outdoor dining furniture for four with umbrella table and George Foreman electric BBQ grill. The front door keyless entry is programmed in advance to whatever four-digit number the guest requests. This unique floorplan is more of a hybrid between a studio and a 1/1 – for the studio rate. The living and sleeping areas are combined in the first room. It includes a queen bed, chair, sofa (not sleeper) and flat-screen TV, plus books and family games.  Then there is a hallway with the bathroom. It has a shower (no tub) and includes a hairdryer. The hallway continues to a full, eat-in kitchen with all dishes, utensils and appliances, including a dishwasher (this is the only unit in the complex with a dishwasher). The coffeemaker is a 12-cup carafe drip style. The kitchen dining table seats four. The table can extend twice as big for work/computer space or having friends over for dinner. The cottage is supplied with six sets of bath towels and four beach towels, spare sheets, pillows and blankets, lots of hangars, iron/board, vacuum/mop/bucket/broom, beach cooler, beach chairs and a rack for drying swimsuits. The front door keyless entry is programmed in advance to whatever four-digit number the guest requests. Inside the living room are large windows, a queen sleeper sofa, lighted ceiling fan, wood floors, a bookcase full of books, an entertainment hutch with flat-screen TV and family games. The closet by the front door is full of beach gear, including beach chairs, cooler, noodle floats and sand toys. Double French doors separate the living room from the small bedroom with queen bed, built-in shelves and lighted ceiling fan. The living room connects with a very large, full kitchen with original yellow tiles, loads of cabinets, Terrazzo floor, all dishes, utensils and appliances (but no dishwasher). The coffeemaker is a 12-cup carafe drip style. The dining table seats four. The table can extend twice as big for work/computer space or having friends over for dinner. A hallway with large, full length mirrored closets leads to the 1940s style bathroom with original fixtures, including the pink goldfish light. The bathroom has a shower (no tub) and includes a hairdryer and large linen closet. Private, small, clean boutique property in Pompano Beach

This property in Pompano Beach is private, very clean and well maintained. It’s perfect for those who want to be close to the beach and yet have a cozy comfortable, uncrowded place to stay. It’s got a relaxing vibe.

Always the Best!

We have stayed many times @ Elaines wonderful cottages. Locations are fantastic,,, near everything …food, shopping, beaches, entertainment. Pompano Beach has been rejuvenated as of late & it is beautiful to see. Her prices are more than fair and the accomodations truly are superb. You’d be hard pressed to find anything elsewhere with all that you get.

A great getaway

We stayed here for five nights to get a dose of sunshine before enduring the rest of a northeast winter. The cottage is adorable and in a great location….just around the block from the beach and walking distance to restaurants. I loved the screened in porch and all the helpful extras in the house, like beach chairs and sand toys….even some books! We will have great memories of this vacation.

Wonderful Choice!

We booked Cottage #2. It was a studio king. It was just lovely. I chose it for the lovely screened in porch. The cottage was just as pictured: Bright, clean, and fully furnished -right down a cooler for the beach! Elaine, the owner, has a notebook in each cottage filled with loads of info and menus. It was really fun to try out some of the restaurants that were close to the cottages. Ocean was just a short walk away. Beautiful safe neighborhood. Thanks Elaine for all your help and hospitality!

BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ FOR THIS ONE

After reading the reviews I was satisfied to book this one. I booked directly with Cottages by the Ocean and not the travel websites to skip the middle guy with processing fees. We were looking for certain criteria and Cottage by the Ocean fit the description to a T. We have a small dog and needed a ground floor occupancy with grass thus having a cottage worked great. This was an efficiency cottage with a screened porch and a George Foreman Grill. A full kitchen, great shower head and a king size bed. Very clean cottage with many windows and secure locks. The location was great as it is a popular safe area. The marina is 2 blocks away where we went fishing on a charter. Also, pet friendly restaurants close by. The owner, Elaine met us at the cottages and gave us much information about the area and the Cottages. She even had a treat for our dog, a beach bag, coupons for activities and bottled water to greet us. Also, a big book with listings of restaurants, and activities.

Another great stay at the quaint cottage!

We stayed here for the second time while visiting family. The cottage is well-equipped and convenient for walks to the ocean and restaurants. Elaine has a binder FULL of recommendations and tips which is really helpful. My husband (a reluctant traveler), asked if we could stay here again. I think he felt, like I did, that it was a little home away from home.

Great get away

Everything was great. Much to do in and around the area. Many very good restaurants. Cottage was very clean and furniture was in very good shape. Just a short walk to the beach. When you arrive you have a code to open the door. So you just go right in. Owner was very friendly and helpful.

Pleasant comfortable stay

Beautiful cottage. Tastefully decorated. Everything that was needed was there. Quiet and cozy. Roommy place. Wide open concept. Bed right next to a closet and the bathroom, connected to a living room with the sofa that could be made into a bed. A nice TV. Free Wi-Fi. A nice little kitchen table next to the kitchen with stove, fridge, pans, cutlery. You will love your stay here. And it’s just a couple of blocks away from the beautiful beach. The staff is very friendly. You will not be disappointed

The perfect spot!

My husband and I wanted to get away for a few days with our 2 dogs. Not an easy job to find someplace close to the beach, that takes dogs, close to lots of restaurants, and didn’t cost an arm and a leg… AND ….was quiet!!! Look no further, and run, do not walk, to this beautiful cluster of cottages. We stayed in a king studio , and we were so happy the second we walked in! The air conditioner was cold, and the place was spotless!!! Everything we needed was there. We forgot a wine opener and blow dryer….. Check. They had it… You name it. Oh , and the shower was quite large with great water pressure! The bed was also so comfortable, and for 2 people that usually have insomnia, we slept so well, that we considered that part of our vacation…! The proprietress , Elaine, couldn’t have been nicer , and we felt like she really cared about our comfort. We actually looked forward to coming home to this cottage, after being on the town all day. All we kept thinking about was that bed. Oh, that bed….! But , what really was so great about staying here was that Elaine cared about us even after we got home. I left my car keys which I needed desperately. If you can only imagine what that feels like. Elaine arranged to have them fedexed overnight . We can’t imagine ever staying anywhere else when we come to this coast! Staying here was an absolute delight! Bravo Elaine!

The Perfect Vacation Cottage!

We were thrilled when we opened the door to our cottage and found it even nicer than pictured! It was perfect for the two of us and actually could accommodate 3 others, if needed. Our trip was not for pleasure since a death in our family had occurred but this became our retreat from the sadness we felt. There is no doubt we will stay there again during better times! The owner, Elaine, and her staff were such a pleasure to work with!
